On 17th October 2008, Cheshire's great and good packed in to Macclesfield Town's McIlroy Suite for the 10th staging of  Silk FM Local Hero Awards. The celebration of acheivement, bravery, hard work and dedication recognised 12 of the areas real stars, including a boy who saved his Mum's life, a life-long carer and Macc Hospital's A&E department.   This is the event we are most proud of us. Since we began broadcasting in 1998, the Silk FM Local Hero Awards have grown in stature. Now very much part of the 'Cheshire Calender', 150 people including nominees, dignitries, charity representatives and invited guests were treated to a fabulous 3 course dinner and live entertainment courtesy of All Hallows College Choir.   Award Winners:   Project - Macclesfield Road safety partnership - Young Driver Initiative; Champion Child - Conor Beirne; Teacher - Emma Shaw of Park Lane Special School; Neighbour - Linda Stanway; Emergency Worker - Macclesfield Hospital A&E Department; Parent - Mary Rowbotham; Sporting Inspiration - Kevin Manson, Congleton Hawks Junior FC; People's Champion - Ann Sheedy; Carer - Carol Goodall; Young Person - Rachel Flower; Volunteer - Doreen Smith
