On Thursday 19th November we staged our 11th Local Hero Awards with a lavish ceremony at Macclesfield Town's McIlroy Suite.

Social Enterprise Award
Winner: Lynne Tweats
Our Social Enterprise Award went to Lynne Tweats and the HR Team at Macclesfield Town Hall.
The new Award was spearheaded by Tony Billings and All Hallows Catholic College.

Carer Of The Year Award
Winner: Florence Nellist
Our Carer of the Year is Florence Nellist for her dedication to her Son as well as her all round selfless persona.
Our Carer of the Year Award is supported by Rangemore Nursing Home.

Parent Of The Year Award
Winner: Deborah Lawson
Parent of the year 2009 was awarded to Deborah Lawson, pictured here with her son, Ashley and husband.

Teacher Of The Year Award
Winner: Helen Wilson
Helen Wilson won the Teacher of the year accolade. Head of English at Macclesfield High raised plenty of smiles with her acceptance speech!

Neighbour Of The Year Award
Winner: Sue Donahue
Sue Donahue was awarded Neighbour of the Year, pictured with Cheryl from Treetops Nursery.

Winner: Josh Simpson
Josh Simpson picked up the Macclesfield Express Champion Child gong, pictured with Lara from the East Cheshire Hospice.

Volunteer Of The Year Award
Winner: Evelyne Hulme
Jane Indsor collected the Volunteer of the Year award on behalf of Evelyne Hulme, for her work with the Animal Support Volunteers. Ironically, Evelyne had to dash off just befor the event started to find a missing cat somewhere in Wilmslow!

Project Of The Year Award
Winner: Styall Prison
The 'Greener on the Outside' initiative picked up our Project Award.
The team at Styal Prison got all of the inmates and staff fully engaged with an inventive initiative which sees the prisoners growing crops and produce.

Environment Award
Winner: Jeremy Bates
Our Environment Award went to popular local man Jeremy Bates.
'Jerry' dedicates his time to making sure his Upton Priory neighbourhood is kept clean and tidy by getting out there and picking up litter and making good communal areas - 365 days a year!
Our Environment Award is brought to you in association with Henshaws Skips Waste and Metal Recyclers.

Young Person Award
Winner: Phillip Whelan
Phillip Wheelan won our Young Person Award, supported by Oldbury and Cruikshank.
Ex-Fallibroome pupil Phillip has raised over £100,000 for charities.

Charity Fundraising
The evening featured outstanding performances from All Hallows Catholic College Choir and superb vocal performances by Lucy, Bry and Maisie - all from Macclesfield High School.
The Raffle raised a chunky £216, which will go straight to the Christmas Crusade - kick starting our annual toy appeal in style.
Rhinnon from the Macc Express won the cake, but at the end of the night donated it straight to the East Cheshire Hospice.
